PMA Certified
Gail Giovanniello has fascination for the limitless potential of movement and healing in the human body and how incorporating fitness can permeate one’s entire life.
Gail began her deep study of movement, like many artists, as a dancer, and was earning a BFA from SUNY Purchase when her love for Pilates first began. Gail went on to have an extensive performing career in NY, around the US, and abroad. Since then, her devotion to fitness has intrigued her to pursue multiple methods, however Gail finds the Pilates method to be the most effective exercise for any physical level.
Gail has a keen eye which promotes a focus and attention to detail and an in-depth comprehension of anatomy for movement, allowing her to be able to help people with a broad range of post-injury rehabilitation, sports conditioning, prenatal exercise and post-natal recovery as well as overall toning concerns.
Gail grants profound and overall attention, interest, and concern for all her clients and gives tireless care to the upkeep of her two studio locations. The personal sense she adds makes clients feel like they’re working out in a large living space, affording an ease uncommon to most exercise environments.
Founded in 1995, Mind Your Body is one of the first Pilates and GYROTONIC® studios on the Upper East Side. The two studios, each located on second floors overlooking Lexington Avenue in the 90′s, are bright and airy, but still private and cozy. Her studios reflect the personal touch you’ll receive in everything from greetings from desk staff she personally trains to the fitness professionals she personally selects, encourages & keeps apprised of the latest exercise trends.
Gail believes in continuing the traditions of precision, breath, control, and alignment set forth by Joseph Pilates in the 1950′s by receiving Heritage Training from Cara Reeser, a disciple of Kathy Grant, who studied directly with Joe Pilates. In effect, Gail is a third generation descendent teacher of the Pilates method, receiving wisdom handed down carefully and specifically from past master to present master and keeping the continuity and exactness of the method intact.
Gail has also trained for over five years with Deborah Lessen, a teaching disciple of another Joseph Pilates direct-line student, Carola Trier. Deborah is one of the founders of the Pilates Method Alliance, which offers the only psychometrically validated, third party professional certification exam in the Pilates field, to which Gail was officially certified and henceforth, maintains a membership within their ranks .
Gail also studied with Kelly Kane, founder of Core Integration, who incorporated anatomical knowledge to improve strength and stability. Gail first trained with Julie Sorrentino of Balanced Body NYC in the old-fashioned and standard way of Pilates instructors of the time, where studio owner trained student and the student worked under a contract for the studio.
Gail is fully trained on all the Pilates apparatus, including reformer, trapeze table, and chair as well as the GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower and Jump Stretch Board. Gail is also certified in Thai Yoga body work, which is a form of massage evolved from the ancient healing traditions of Ayurveda, yoga, and Thai Buddhism.
Gail is an avid cyclist, and loves downhill skiing, scuba diving, and rhythm tapping! Once a dancer, always a dancer. She is an absolute master of her craft. You’ll enhance a sense of yourself from her classes, feeling strong, looking tall and moving with ease.
