Today Pilates is the hot new trend, but there’s a lot more to it. Created in the 1940s by Joseph H. Pilates, the method focuses on correct body alignment through neuromuscular retraining. With a series of precise movements, Pilates uses specialized equipment (the Reformer, Cadillac, and Wanda Chair) to improve flexibility and strength, while heightening awareness of muscle function and control. Pilates is an effective form of exercise that begins with alignment, spinal articulation and works the deeper stabilizer muscles. The Pilates method refines posture, gets one to ground down to lengthen up and learn the true length of their spine. That is the Pilates body!
