Skills for Pilates, that is! Deborah Lessen’s Visual Assessment workshop held yesterday at Bodies in Balance Pilates studio yesterday was, as expected, chock full of information! Deb has “mad” assessment skills and she claims, Carola Trier, her teacher and descendant of Joseph Pilates, taught this way. She says, “While teaching, you were constantly assessing but not teaching your client anatomy, but teaching them how to move well and efficient.” Teaching how to strengthen muscles from their shortest length to the longest.
This is demonstrated well in the Side Bend on the Reformer where the exercise begins at rest and the body has to move with strategy to get up to the end result of the long side plank position. The body has to fire up certain muscle patterning to do this correctly.

I feel so lucky that my training is with Deborah Lessen, independent and straight from the source of what Joseph Pilates intended!

Today marks the anniversary of the date former Mayor Guiliani signed the bill to close the landfills on Staten Island NY.  Being from Staten Island, NY, this report caught my attention.
Either way, people are up in arms because it costs money to get rid of the mounds of trash each week or is stinking up our landfills.
NPR stated today that the best thing we can do is eliminate the amount of trash we produce.
I personally try to eliminate using paper, paper coffee cups;  I never take a mound of napkins with a food or beverage purchase, never allow for double bagging or paper bags with purchases  and have purchased eco friendly “to go” coffee containers for people.
What are you doing on your part? I could only imagine doing your part can be contagious. Please share…

In good health,
Gail

The physical study of Pilates and yoga is the perfect training ground and metaphor for transcending obstacles and for gaining vision. There is real meaning in a dedicated movement practice; how does your life reflect this?

I just wanted to write and tell you how happy I am to be able to afford three classes during a week.  These unlimited passes have been wonderful and I am seeing such a difference in my body! – Casey

You are my energy healer. You made it better. I love you.  - Susan
