On Friday, 2/11, I participated in Mind Your Body’s annual Thai Massage workshop. What is Thai Massage? Imagine a combination of gentle stretching and massage where one partner receives while the other gives and vice versa. Al started us sitting back- to- back, to become acquainted with each others breath. As the work progressed from feet to head,  you form a deep connection to your partner through mindful touch. Thai Massage has the ability to ease body, mind, and soul for both giver and receiver. I stood up from receiving feeling lighter. Not only had my muscles relaxed a little of the constant tension I hold, but the massage also allowed my mind to become calm and still for almost one hour.  Giving the massage is a meditation in itself. Nothing feels better then giving the gift of loving kindness to a friend, family member, or loved one. And my boyfriend and I learned great massage techniques to bring home!

Here’s an inside look at our Thai Massage Workshop with Al Turner.

“Looking for something fun and unique to do this Valentine’s?”

Thai Massage is a fun and unique way to interact and share loving kindness through the art of massage with your best friend, spouse, partner or family. Learn simple massage and stretching techniques that can be immediately used to help relieve each other’s daily stress, muscle soreness and pain. No previous massage experience necessary.

Thai massage is an ancient healing art that uses passive stretch, massage and energy balancing for better alignment, flexibility, pain relief, relaxation and overall wellness. Thai massage is performed fully clothed, barefoot on a floor mat. No oils or lotions are used. Wear comfortable clothing that makes movement easy. No skirts or short pants please. Bring two large bath or beach towels. Floor mats are provided.

Your instructor Al Turner II is an internationally recognized teacher of Traditional Thai Massage on faculty at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and Dance New Amsterdam. Al is a licensed massage therapist, trained in both Eastern and Western massage therapeutics.
