Dear Friends:

The PMA would like to make it known to the international Pilates community that our First Generation Pilates Teacher, Kathleen Stanford Grant, is home bound and in poor health.

We know how much she would appreciate hearing from her former students, admirers, friends and all well wishers. Now would be the ideal moment to thank her once again for her contributions and care.

If you would like to send a card wishing her peace, comfort and good health, please write to:

Kathleen Stanford Grant

Have you ever wanted to turn back but you just couldn’t? Saturday’s inclines ranged from 6-13% grade!! It is the steep that makes you feel you will tip right over if you stop for just a half second. Well, I went up, which was optional, but following 3 other teammates made it seem simple. The funny thing was when I saw them all flying down, as I was a fair bit behind them. As I just said, I couldn’t stop pedaling. I tried screaming; it just wasn’t happening. Well I went up, waited, saw noone, went down the other side, waited, saw noone, went up and flew down just as I saw them do. Still saw noone but the NYCC Cycle group had continuued on. Well, I had the turn sheet, I continuued and it was up, up and up. Overall, a beautiful day to ride a bicycle outdoors and see the country side. The orchards were beautiful and fragrant. New Jersey really is a beautiful state; it is under-rated. This week, we head back to Harriman State Park for more hills. My legs haven’t recovered from last Saturday, so wish me luck and get on YOUR bicycle this weekend and share your stories with me. Looking for a route? I can help. Contact me here. Happy Pedaling ~gail

Our GYROKINESIS classes at Mind Your Body have been a great success. Yasuko, a professional dancer and GYROTONIC and GYROKINESIS instructor is petite but very strong. It is clear that her power is from the core of her being. Yasuko gives clear direction and keeps the class moving. If you want to awaken, release, expand, oxygenate, increase flexibility, DO GYROKINESIS. You can sign up on this site! Tuesdays at 11:45. You will feel and appear as a dancer.

There is nothing like cycling in the country on a bright sunny day. It gives me such freedom. Tomorrow marks my 7th consecutive distance ride with New York City Cycling. The map says 77.5 miles. Now that may sound like a lot of miles but when you are riding pace-line, there is a group energy and dynamic that somehow makes those 70+ miles fly by. The last 15 miles are tough but getting to the end is most rewarding and exhilarating. Last Saturday was winter again, if you remember. I toughed it out and rode 58 miles. The sun came out around mile 35. The forecast says rain for tomorrow but maybe “they” will be wrong. Keep your fingers crossed for me. After instructing 30 Pilates classes this week, be it a little chillier than desired, I am really looking forward to tomorrow’s ride. We head to the “Orchards” on South Mountain Road, apparently, a famous ride. I know nothing about it. I will fill you in on the next cycling blog. Are YOU interested in riding, either casually or seriously? If so, let me know and I will help you get started. There are no limits. ~Gail
