Pilates training is a strengthening workout and has become a trend. Having been popular in New York for years, Pilates IS NOT a trend. Thousands of people have corrected bad posture, strengthened their cores, gained balance, prevented many surgeries and have become more fit than ever since practicing Pilates’ methods! What are you waiting for?

Check out this NY Times article:

As you may already know, I am an outdoor cyclist and take spin classes in the colder months, which we are in. With the Pilates classes and GYROTONIC classes I take regularly combined with the 100 mile rides in warmer months, the cycling classes have gotten much easier! I breezed through Saturday’s class and those of you who spin, know that the spin classes are NO JOKE! I don’t want to put anyone in a negative light but I wanted to scream out, “DO MORE PILATES. FIND YOUR CORE!” I always give much credit to anyone for taking a job, riding, power walking or taking a simple stroll on the treadmill so I was happy to see so many people exercising in this group class. But I also wanted to shout, “CROSS TRAIN”. People were unsteady on the bikes, rocking their bodies and that comes down to exerting too much effort. Where is the control? Pilates classes are a great way to cross train one’s body. Pilates exercises will lengthen the spine, allow one to use the core, stand tall, move freely, balance on the ground or on a pedal and most importantly, MOVE FROM THE CENTER OF THE BODY, THE CORE. Check out our classes! Do it today. The most common statement I hear is, “I wish I had started Pilates classes ten years ago!” Yeah, it is one more thing but it is worth leaving the office early or getting out of bed on the weekends. I see and experience so many happy people at Mind Your Body, as it is a treat for the mind and the body.

If you are familiar with Mind Your Body Pilates and GYROTONIC, you know that no-one is leaving Manhattan for good. Mind Your Body has been serving Manhattan’s Upper East Side as one of the best personalized Pilates studies for sixteen years and our Manhattan future looks good! However, it is nice to leave NYC every once in a while. What a better way to do it than to visit Big Sky Montana! Down hill skiing is another past-time of mine and boy did we luck out with the winter conditions at Big Sky with at least one foot of powder at the base!
Of course I will give ‘Ode to Pilates’ for my improved strength and balance in my new boots. I felt that I was standing upright and facing that scary direction, DOWN HILL! My legs felt strong and my core felt engaged as I glided smoothly through my S-turns. Doing Pilates with a personal trainer privately is the reason for my good posture, alignment and balance on my skis. I began skiing late in life. It is not something that comes naturally to me and I certainly do not want to fall at this stage in my life.
Many of Mind Your Body clients are skiers and they have all agreed that Pilates training has helped them tremendously.
Are you a skier? We’d like to hear your story. It doesn’t have to be about Pilates. Where are you skiing this year? Where is the snow? Do you Board? Cross-country? Snow-shoe? At Mind Your Body Pilates, we appreciate the athletic side and want you to share your ski (or other) stories with us.Big Sky Montana 1Big Sky Montana 2 RECEIVE 10% ANY SINGLE SERVICE OR MERCHANDISE WHEN YOU RESPOND TO ONE OF OUR BLOGS.
