This past weekend, as I rode my average 25 mile ride around the Nyack, Hudson Valley area, I was shocked at the aggression of motorists. As I fought the wind and my breathe up hills and around the fields, I felt like a road enemy. Cyclist legally must follow road signage as if driving a car: stopping at lights, merging and turning from the proper lanes, and signaling etc…
I know a few cyclist who have been swiped by a car and it does not take much to bring a bike and a person down. A vehicle weighs 100 times as much as a carbon bike and one fit person!
If you drive a motor vehicle, what are your thoughts on seeing cyclists on the road?
Can this blog encourage you to slow down? We know you are behind us and are waiting for you to pass but we ask that you share the road, as it is a cyclist’s legal right and the only acceptable area cyclists are to ride….is in the road. I received a $50.00 moving violation for riding my bicycle on the sidewalk and I had to appear in court!
Send me your thoughts…..I want to spread the word to help minimize seeing white bikes, which indicates a cyclist was hit and killed by a motorist.
