aaah, just returned from the New Age Health Spa in Neversink, NY. I go there to regain a connection to myself, practice Yoga, meditate and to eat extremely healthy. I have rediscovered Yoga in a way that I am excited to add it back to my daily life! To add to the conversations regarding Yoga and Pilates. My instructor stated that Yoga is for the nervous system, to commune with one’s self, to come into yourself. It is fine to have and set goals but she was saying almost the opposite is needed and in Yoga, it is not about reaching outward for any particular goal but to search inward.
Running a busy New York Pilates studio on manhattan’s upper east side, leaves me depleted at times and coming into myself, calming my nervous system and finding a communion with myself, all sound like just the right thing.
I agree with your comments on Yoga. Mind Your Body Pilates is such an asset to the Upper East Side due to its great classes in strengthening and balancing the body but sometimes yoga is preferred. I recently added Yoga to my weekly schedule. Stress was overwhelming me and now I find myself becoming more aware of it and know that it is time to spend time on myself and practice Yoga. As stated above, it does not need to be about which style of class is better… Yoga or Pilates; both work the body differently and one becomes better and healthier through each practice. I especially see this as I work at one of NYC’s busiest Pilates studios; I see clients come in and get so excited about how their bodies feel after just one class and maintain a healthy glow days after the class. Doing Pilates in NYC is a positive exercise for the mind and body and very much needed in this hectic city.
