Stress manifests itself in our bodies..whether it is physical..or emotional..over time this will cause imbalance. The body is amazing and is constantly making adjustments to be in balance. This is why sometimes there is an injury on one side of the body and the opposite is tight. The healthy side is actually working harder to compensate for the side that can no longer do it's job. The goal of massage at Mind Your Body Pilates is to identify these imbalances and come up with a treament plan to bring the body back to balance and keep it that way.

I cannot express how important it is to get massage. As a physical person and as a pilates trainer, I try to get massage at least twice a month if I can. I recommend massage to clients often, because spinal articulation and muscle awareness is not enough to rid us of the extra tension and habits that we hold from our daily physical stress.

I must agree with Dana's comment. One never realizes how much tension is withheld in the body until a therapist starts moving muscles around. If you experience pain in your neck and shoulders, you may not realize how tight your lower back is, for example, until it is massaged! I believe we can all use weekly or at the very least monthly massages or other kind of body work, be it Thai, Reflexology (my favorite), sports massage or shiatsu. How often do you get body work?

I totally agree that any massage (Thai is great:) can greatly increase the benefit that you then receive from your exercise regime. I recently have had a massage and realized how much stress tension that I hold in my neck. Because I am so tense and held there, it is hard for me to get optimum results from Pilates. I now know this and am aware that I should have it released every so often for my body's sake! We all want to get the most out of our weekly exercise and if this can be improved and help us to see results faster, why no get a massage! Your body, mind and soul will all thank you for this great, worth while experience!
